EVLT Laser Ablation
The AngioDynamics EVLT laser is a quick and effective method for treating varicose veins and offers better patient results than many other laser technologies. Local anesthetic is applied to ensure patient comfort and a thin laser fiber is inserted into the targeted vein in the leg. The Venacure laser targets water with laser energy. Because veins are mostly composed of water, the laser heats the vein and disrupts the walls of the vein. The body diverts blood flow to the surrounding veins and the vein is absorbed by the body. Treatments are typically less than one hour and offer immediate relief of symptoms with no downtime. This procedure is typically covered by insurance.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
Ambulatory phlebectomy is an outpatient procedure that removes leg veins through tiny punctures in the skin. It is performed using local anesthesia so that patients do not feel pain during the treatment. There are no stitches needed, just a tiny piece of tape. This procedure is used on veins that are too large to be treated with sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is used to treat small varicose veins and spider veins. An irritant is injected into the affected vein, causing it to constrict and gradually be reabsorbed by the body. Over time, the injected vein will fade. The procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes. In addition to treating the visible signs of varicose veins, sclerotherapy can also reduce uncomfortable symptoms, such as aching, swelling, burning and night cramps.
VenaSeal™
VenaSeal™ is a vein closure system approved by the FDA for the treatment of varicose veins. A small catheter is inserted into the vein and cyanoacrylate, a medical adhesive, is dispensed while slight compression is applied. The inner walls of the vein stick together, sealing it off. The body redirects blood flow. VenaSeal is safe, fast and has very minimal discomfort. Patients can resume their normal activities the day after treatment.
Radiofrequency Ablation
Radiofrequency ablation is a safe, fast (about 40 minutes) and minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins. It is an alternative to Endovenous Laser Ablation. Radiofrequency energy is used to generate heat which in turn causes closure of the vein.
All the treatments offered at the Vein Institute allow patients to drive themselves home after their procedures. No sedation is required and patients will only be asked to wear a compression stocking and limit how much they lift afterwards. There are no other limitations!
